WOE TO THOSE WHO TRUST IN FLESH

Isaiah 31:1-9

I. Horses, Chariots, and Horsemen (vs. 1-3)
   a. Why was Judah being warned not to go to Egypt for help?

   b. What was the appeal of Egypt’s horses, chariots, and horsemen?

   c. In looking for earthly help, Who was not being sought? _

   d. Why should Judah (and Israel) have known better than to trust Egypt?

   e. What was God purposing against Egypt? Was this the first place Isaiah
    speaks the same judgment?

   f. How does this repeated warning fit with Isaiah’s teaching style revealed
    in Isaiah 28:9-10?

   g. Which will prevail, spirit or flesh? What happens
    to those who trust in anyone rather than God?


II. The Lord… Will Fight for Mount Zion (vs. 4-9)
   a. In verse 4, is Judah the multitude of shepherds or the young lion?

   b. Who would successfully fight for Mount Zion?

   c. In what way would God deliver Mount Zion, and where have we seen this
    before?

   d. God’s deliverance of Jerusalem/Judah is recorded in 2 Kings 19:35-36.
    What is significant about this battle?

   e. When God delivers His people, what will be their spiritual response?
   
   f. What will become of Assyria?

 

Application: What are some things that men trust in rather than God?
Why are these vain hopes?
