WOE TO EPHRAIM AND JERUSALEM
Isaiah 28:1-29
I. The Drunkards of Ephraim (vs. 1-13)
a. What does the phrase “crown of pride” mean in verse 1? _
b. How is Ephraim described? How do you know?
c. What is proposed against Israel (Ephraim)?
d. Will there be a remnant even of Israel?
e. Who will be their glory?
f. Who has erred through wine and intoxicating drink?
g. How have they erred?
h. How does Isaiah propose to teach wisdom?
i. Why did it fail with the prideful of Ephraim?
II. Jerusalem (vs. 14-29)
a. Was Jerusalem conducting herself any better than Ephraim at this point?
b. What was the “scourge” being warned about?
c. Who is being written about in vs. 16-17? _
d. Will Jerusalem be unscathed by the Assyrian invasion?
e. God seems to be telling Jerusalem that there is a time for different things.
What example does he use to illustrate this?
f. What is God instructing Jerusalem with the specific ways that certain
grains are made useful?
g. Who will bring these things to pass?
Application: Pride, arrogance, and intoxicating drink all cause a person to
behave improperly toward God. How do each of these things hinder a person from being able to truly learn what the Lord would have us know/do?
