WARNING: DON’T GO TO JERUSALEM
Acts 21:1-14
I. The Path to Jerusalem (vs. 1-5)
a. Paul departs from Miletus, and we can track his movements by the cities
he is passing. Does it seem he is taking the scenic route or pushing
forward?
b. Travel in the ancient world was slightly more involved. When his ship was
unloading its cargo, where does Paul pass the time?
c. Is there any indication that these were not led by the Spirit in warning
Paul?
d. Equally, was Paul convinced that the Spirit was urging him forward?
e. Was there genuine brotherly love between Paul and these disciples?
II. On to Caesarea (vs. 6-12)
a. With whom do Paul and company stay in Caesarea?
b. What was noteworthy of Philip and his daughters?
c. While at Philip’s house, a guest arrives. Who is he and what do we know
of him?
d. Similar to Old Testament prophets, Agabus makes symbolic use of props
to make his warning to Paul. What is it?
e. What does Agabus see ahead of Paul?
f. Are any of the warnings outside the parameters of what God told Ananias
would happen to Paul? (Acts 9:15-16)
III. I Am Ready… (vs. 13-14)
a. Was Paul pushing forward in the will of God or against it?
b. Were the warnings the Holy Spirit trying to stop Paul? Or maybe awaken
Paul’s support partners along the way?
c. Was Paul in any way deterred by the pleading?
IV. Application: How can we walk with the same confidence Paul demonstrated?
