The Son of Promise
Genesis 18:1-33
I. The Lord Appears to Abraham (vs. 1-15)
a. Was the “Lord appeared” figurative or was He actually bodily present?
b. When Abraham sees the Lord and company, what does he do?
c. Who may have been the other two accompanying the Lord (see Gen 19:1)?
d. How does Abraham serve the three visitors?
e. What evidence do we have that the three were not simply a vision but actually physically present?
f. What does the Lord ask Abraham in verse 9?
g. What specific promise does the Lord make concerning Sarah?
-What makes Sarah laugh?
i. Did the Lord know Sarah’s thoughts and internal laughter?
j. What great truth is revealed in verse 14 that can overwhelm any obstacle, difficulty, or doubt we can confront?
k. How certain was the promise of a son and the time when it would come to pass?
l. Does Sarah acknowledge her laughter?
-Does the Lord make sure she knows that He knows?
II. The Lord’s Plan for the Cities of the Plain (vs. 16-33)
a. Where was the Lord’s attention directed as He leaves Abraham?
b. Why does the Lord choose to tell Abraham His plan?
c. What was the problem with Sodom and Gomorrah (also Admah and Zeboiim see also Deut 29:23)?
d. When the Lord reveals His plan, who might have been on Abraham’s mind that he intercedes for these cities?
e. On what basis does Abraham negotiate with the Lord?
f. Does the Lord allow concessions based on Abraham’s appeal?
g. What is finally assured to Abraham regarding the destruction of the righteous?
Application: The question, “Is anything to hard for the Lord?” meant only for Abraham and Sarah or can we know that it still stands?
