Luke 6:12-26
- The Apostles (vs. 12-16)
a. How does Jesus spend the night prior to naming the apostles?
b. Who did Jesus call to Himself in verse 13?
c. Why do you think Jesus wanted all His disciples present when He named His apostles?
d. What does the personal selection of each of these and especially Judas Iscariot’s selection tell us about what Jesus was doing?
e. Luke mentions that Judas “also became a traitor” …Who knew Judas would when he was named?
- The Multitudes (vs. 17-19)
a. How does Jesus celebrate the naming of the apostles?
b. Where had this multitude assembled from?
c. What did Jesus do for those who had physical needs or even demons?
- The Beatitudes (vs. 20-26)
a. As Jesus begins the beatitudes who is He addressing?
b. Each of the verses in 20-22 are formulaic in their presentation…what does each theme begin with?
c. What two conditions are contrasted in each beatitude?
d. What suddenly shifts in verse 24-26?
e. How are verses 24-26 set in contrast to 20-23?
IV. Application: The apostles were still disciples but were set apart to fulfill a significant purpose…what would it be?
While the office of apostle is no longer filled does the Lord still call out people for specific tasks?
