Isaiah 41:1-29

I. His Name Will Be … (Cyrus King of Persia) (vs. 1-7) (Is. 44:28, 45:1)
   a. In a sense, God delivers Miranda right to the nations. Will they be allowed
     to keep their silence forever?

   b. For what purpose will the nations be brought together?

   c. Although not mentioned by name here, Isaiah 44:28 does reveal who this
    instrument of judgment will be against the nations. What is his name?
  
   d. How does Cyrus come to power and Who is guaranteeing his success?

   e. What feeble attempt do the nations try to oppose Cyrus?

 

II. But You, Israel Are My Servant (vs. 8-20)
   a. The scene shifts from nations trembling before Cyrus..to Israel. How will
     they view this rise to power by Cyrus?

   b. What comforting words does God offer to His people conquered by the
    Babylonians, and now exiled from their God given land?

   c. What would become of all those nations that opposed Israel?

   d. Who is the Redeemer in verse 14? How do you know?

   e. Israel is depicted as a servant (vs. 8) and a worm (vs. 14). If they are to
     emerge victorious, how can it happen?

   f. Verses 17-20 speak also of the desert blooming. A short-term reference of
    God’s restored blessing on Israel returned from exile, but when will it be
    perfectly fulfilled?

 

III. Again with the Idols? (vs. 21-29)
   a. What can idols really do?

   b. Verse 25 reveals God’s hand on Cyrus to help Israel. What is surprising in
      verse 25?

   c. When given their day in court, who could answer a word?

 

Application. God knows the end from the beginning. He calls rulers to power and declares them by name 100 years before they are born. What comfort should this offer to every true believer
