PAUL AT THE TEMPLE
Acts 21:26-36
I. Purification (vs. 26-27)
a. In following the recommendation of the Church leaders in Jerusalem,
Paul accompanies the four men who had taken a vow of purification which
required the final seven days he spent in the temple. He paid their temple
fee etc. What happens as the seven days are almost done? _
b. Why is it not surprising that they Jews from Asia accosted Paul like this?
c. What tactic had the Jews in Asia tried to eliminate Paul while in Asia?
d. How successful were they in raising a mob against Paul?
II. The Accusation (vs. 27-31)
a. Did any of the Jews from Jerusalem find cause to lay hands on Paul prior
to the Asian Jews’ accusation?
b. What was the basis of their accusation?
c. What specific detail of the accusation caused the biggest stir?
d. Although the barracks was not far from the Temple, how serious was the
clamor that it immediately got the Romans’ attention?
III. Rescued from the Mob (vs. 31-36)
a. How quickly do the commander and soldiers respond to the uproar?
b. Where is Paul when the commander arrives?
c. Why would the commander place Paul in chains?
d. Why was the commander not about to ascertain what Paul had done to
incite the mob?
e. How easy is it for the soldiers to get Paul out of there?
IV. Application: Despite trying to do everything right to prove his loyalty to God and Judaism, Paul still finds himself in trouble. Can we always avoid trouble? __________ Why or why not?
