Love With God’s Grace
Luke 6:27-49
- Love Your Enemies (vs. 27-36)
a. This part begins in verse 27 addressing “to you who hear”… who exactly is He talking to?
b. Would you say Jesus exhortation in verse 27 “love your enemies” is radically unnatural human behavior?
c. What about doing good to those who hate you?
d. What about blessing those who curse you?
e. In each of these exhortations the call to action is to behave willfully contrary to common sense or natural human behavior…why?
f. Why are we not exhorted to love, give, lend to those who love, repay, and return?
g. Who is this call for “higher’ action emulating?
- The Actions of Love (vs. 37-38)
a. Explain the vertical and horizontal relational connections in verses 37-38. Who is doing what to and for whom?
b. The exhortation not to judge…does this mean we are to ignore sin that God has already judged?
c. In what measure does God give?
- The Three Parable (vs. 39-49)
a. What is the first parable and what does it mean?
b. Who is described holding others accountable for what they themselves are guilty?
c. What is the second parable and its meaning?
d. What is described as the repository out of which man draws and acts?
e. What is the third parable and its meaning?
IV. Application: How can we behave contrary to fallen human nature and live the Lord’s exhortations?
