LISTEN TO ME

Isaiah 51:1-10

I. Remember Where You Came From (vs. 1-3)

   a. Speaking to the remnant who were doing right and seeking the Lord, God
    tells them to look to the rock from which they were hewn, and the hole
    from which you were dug. The Rock is symbolic reference to God but what
    of the “hole” and “pit?”

   b. Who are the Jews to remember, and what is so unique about those two
     people?

   c. For a disheartened people returning from exile, who were feeling small,
     and overwhelmed, how would this reminder help?

   d. What future does God promise Zion?

 

II. My Arms Will Judge the Peoples (vs. 4-8)

   a. How many times does God use Me or My in these verses and what is the
     significance?

   b. Where do we see God’s law, justice, righteousness, and salvation come
     together at a single point in history for the benefit of God’s people?
    
   c. Verses 5 and 6 look to future times. Which of these things has come to
     pass and which are awaiting fulfillment?

   d. Summarize verses 7-8 in your own words in one sentence.

 

III. Urgent Plea for God’s Help (vs. 9-10)
  
a. Israel may have been feeling God was “asleep” during their exile and
     thus the appeal to “awake, awake”, but was God asleep or was he working
     something necessary in His people?

   b. In their prayer, what attributes/ actions of God do they remember?

   c. How would the exodus from Egypt be like their exodus from Babylon?


Application: Why is it important to remember where we came from and how the
Lord
saved us when we are in the midst of difficult circumstances?
