Jacob Sends Messengers to Esau
Genesis 32:1-21
I. Angels of God Meet Jacob (vs. 1-2)
a. Who meets Jacob as he resumes his journey?
b. Does the text indicate there was any kind of communication with the angels?
c. How do we know Jacob was affected by seeing the angels?

II. Messengers Sent to Esau (vs. 3-12)
a. What message does Jacob command the servants deliver to Esau?
b. Does it seem like much time has passed between the sending of the messengers and their return?
c. What is the servants report to Jacob?
d. How does Jacob take the news?
e. In case Esau is coming for destruction what does Jacob do?
f. What is Jacob’s prayer to God and how significant is it that he prays and appeals to God on the basis of God’s own promise?
III. A Present for Esau (vs. 13-21)
a. While lodged in the same place what does Jacob determine to do to possibly appease Esau?
b. How does he direct his servants to conduct this gift to Esau?
c. What were the servants to say to Esau when they saw him?
d. Where does Jacob go after the servant departs with his present to Esau? __________________________________________________________
APPLICATION: In the Scriptures presented it is likely Jacob has a lot of things going through his mind about Esau and likely his own incitement of Esau before he fled Canaan. Jacob’s prayer does not appeal on the basis of his own righteousness, why would he appeal based on the promise God made?
