I Will Carry You: Isaiah 46:1-13

I WILL CARRY YOU

Isaiah 46:1-13

I. A god you have to carry, or a God Who will carry you? (vs. 1-7)
   a. Bel and Nebo were Babylonian gods. Chapter 46 depicts the idols
representing these false gods being carried away on beasts of burden
(presumably by the Persians). Why should Judah and Jerusalem hear this
now, before they are ever exiled to Babylon?

   b. Were Bel or Nebo able to do anything for the Babylonians?

   c. In contrast to these false gods being carried, what does God tell His
    People to remember? (vs. 3-4)

   d. What does God say the people are choosing over Him?

II. Remember Me! (vs. 8-13)
   a. What “former things” do you think God appeals to His people to
     remember?

   b. Is there room for confusion about whether there is more than one God?

   c. How do we know that God declares the end from the beginning?

   d. What proof is there that His counsel stands?

   e. What does He mean “I will do all My pleasure?”

   f. Who is being represented as a bird of prey from the east?

   g. How certain is God that He will accomplish what He has spoken through
    His prophet Isaiah?

   h. Verses 12-13 offer a candid perspective that this appeal is to sinners
(stubborn hearted) , and that God Himself will bring salvation and place it in
Zion, and ultimately it will be for Israel. How will this be accomplished, and
when will it all come to pass?

Application: What promises of God are you looking forward to Him completing?
