Happy New Year

Happy New Year – 2023

Happy New Year, friends! We pray today finds you actively waiting in eager anticipation for all that God will do in the coming year.

As I was thinking about 2023 yesterday, I was greatly comforted by the fact that God sees both 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023, along with every single day in between. He sees all the challenges and victories, the moments that perfect us and the moments in which we find unparalleled joy. He sees the lessons along the way, and the worship we’ll offer Him.

We sat with the kids over the weekend to write our Imaginings for 2023, but today, while on a walk in the woods with them, Allen and I were reminded of Luke 9.62:

Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’

We’ve done our fair share of looking back: What if we hadn’t left Alaska? What if we had studied French in France rather than Québec? What if we’d moved to West Africa? But all those questions do is disqualify us for service in God’s Kingdom.

So, we look forward: forward to the coming year, forward to new areas of growth, forward to opportunities to love and serve. We hope you’ll look forward with us to the One who is worthy of all.
