God Tests Abraham
Genesis 22:1-19
I. Offer Up Your Only Son Isaac (vs. 1-4)
a. Who initiated the communication that tells Abraham to offer up Isaac as a burnt offering?
b. How specific was the Lord to Abraham as to which son he was to offer?
c. Was there a unique recognition about Abraham’s affection toward Isaac?
d. How specific was God’s instruction about where exactly he was to offer up Isaac?
e. How quickly does Abraham respond?
f. What preparations are made and when does he depart?
II.We Will Come Back (vs. 5-10
a. Who is left behind and who goes to sacrifice to the Lord?
b. Does the picture of Isaac carrying the wood on which he would die foreshadow a future far more significant sacrifice? (see John 19:17-18)
c. How does Abraham answer when Isaac asks where the sacrifice was?
d. Having arrived at the place, does Abraham’s action show a willingness to be fully obedient to the Lord?
e. How close was Abraham to fulfilling the Lord’s instruction?

Application: How does Matthew 10:37 show us that Abraham’s test at its core is still in effect today…do you love God more than anything / anyone else?
