Go Forth From Babylon: Isaiah 48:1-22

GO FORTH FROM BABYLON

Isaiah 48:1-22

I. I Knew That You Were Obstinate (vs. 1-11)
   a. Verses 1-2 describe Israel narrowly and accurately. What fault
does the Lord find in His people?

   b. Should the calamity that will befall Israel surprise them? Why or why
     not?

   c. How attentive and sensitive to God’s direction were his people?

   d. Why does God say He has declared the end from the beginning to His
     people?

   e. What is profound about verses 6-8?

   f. Why does the Lord refine His people and who will ultimately be the
      beneficiary?

II. The Lord God and His Spirit Have Sent Me (vs. 12-22)
   a. In verses 12-13, we see a common theme that has appeared in the past
several chapters. God is God alone! Why the continual reminder?

   b. God raises up Babylon and will also put her down by Cyrus (vs. 14-15).
Verses 16-17 reveal how God will ultimately redeem His people. Who will
      do this?

   c. If Israel had listened and obeyed, how would their lives have been
      different?

   d. Before Babylon carries the first Jew into exile, God declares that they will
return. What will be their attitude in that day?

   e. Why is there no rest for the wicked?

Application: God declares to Israel His purposes to refine and redeem Israel through and from the Babylonians. Plainly revealed is also His plan to Redeem them by His Servant. Who is this and how would it be accomplished?
