A Rebellious People: Isaiah 65:1-12

A REBELLIOUS PEOPLE

Isaiah 65:1-12

I. Here I Am (vs. 1-7)
   a. Who is in view in verse 1? (see also Romans 9:24, 10:20)

   b. Who is verse 2 and following referring to?

   c. What kinds of things was Israel doing that provoked God?

   d. What was the sin in verse 5?

   e. What will the Lord do in response to their iniquity? (vs. 6-7)

II.  My Elect (vs. 8-10)
   a. Are all of Israel hopelessly lost?

   b. How is verse 8 like the parable of the wheat and tares in Matt. 11:24-30?

   c. How do we reconcile the “elect (chosen ones)” in verse 9 and the
imperative of “…for My people who have sought Me” in verse 11?

III. When I Called, You Did Not Answer (vs. 11-12)
   a. Verses 11-12 continue God’s righteous judgment of Israel. What was at
the heart of their rebellion against God?

   b. Gad (Troop or Fortune) and Meni (Number or Destiny) were references
to pagan deities. How does the Lord play on the meaning of these names to
    pronounce judgment on Israel?

   c. When the Lord called, they did not answer, and when He spoke, they did
not hear. Whose fault was it? God or the people?

Application:
As Gentiles we rejoice that according to God’s grace, salvation came to the Gentiles! Knowing the judgment pronounced against Israel for her sin, how should we be praying for Israel?

What word of hope do we find in Romans 11:26?
