Luke 21:5-19

            I. Jesus Prophecies the Destruction of the Temple (vs. 5-6)

a. What impressed some people regarding the temple? ______________________________________

b. The temple that was present during Jesus earthly ministry was Herod’s temple. This was the second

iteration…Solomon’s, Haggai’s with Herod’s significant upgrades. This temple took forty-six years to

build and by all descriptions was impressive. For example, one block that survived is 46’ long 10’ high a

nd 10’ deep weighing about 415 tons. How enduring would this temple be? ______________________

c. Based on Israel’s history, what was wrong with the idea that nothing could possibly hurt Jerusalem

because the temple was there? __________________________________________________________

II. Things Must Come to Pass First (vs. 7-19)

a. Are the people interested in when the things spoken by Jesus would come to pass? ____________________________________________________________________________________

b. Of what does Jesus warn His followers to not be deceived? __________________________________

*In 70 AD this Prophecy was fulfilled when Rome commanded Titus to destroy Jerusalem along with the temple.

The people were slaughtered, enslaved, or used for sport on the arena.

 

III. Application: Why is it important to note the accurate fulfillment of Jesus prophecy? _________________
