October 2019

Fall is truly upon us! The snow remains on the mountains …for now. We are reminded by all we see to prepare for winter: clean the yard one last time, get the snow tires ready, make sure the anti-freeze is good in the car, cut wood, break out the winter coats, find the snow shovels etc. etc. etc.… As we look to our own preparations please be mindful of those around us who could use some help especially our senior citizens. Don’t wait for them to ask for help because they probably won’t, take the initiative and ask them if there is something you can do for them.

Please pray for our Associate / Worship Pastor Search Committee as they have diligently looked for the next staff member for FLBC for the past year. They have a young man, Kyle Sparks, who will be here Oct 15-22 in view of a call to fill this position. Kyle will share his testimony, work with our worship team and lead worship, fellowship with us and be available to get to know him and lead a Sunday evening service Bible study. We will have a special called business meeting Sunday night Oct 20th to vote on extending a call to Kyle. Pray for all of this that God’s will be done.

We cannot stand still in God’s kingdom work. The Bible tells us that God has been working until now and Jesus is working. We must continue in the work He has called us to. This always involves ministering to people and making disciples. I am more convinced with each passing day that we must all strive to read, study, apply, memorize, and live the Word of God. We are called as God’s people to be salt and light in the world and the only way to fulfill this is by carrying God’s Word to the world.

I have been blessed to be named a Trustee on the International Mission Board (IMB) and have just completed my orientation and first meeting. I was overwhelmed to hear the missionary stories of what God is doing through our SBC missionaries around the world. There is new leadership at IMB and I am pleased to report the renewed focus on prayer and petition to undergird the great commission and our renewed focus to increase the number of missionaries that will take the Gospel to the nations. I was able to be there for the commissioning service for 24 of our newest missionaries… what a powerful service! As Southern Baptists, we all have a part to play in missions: Praying, Giving, or Going! God still calls out people willing to sacrifice so that the Gospel reaches ALL the nations, languages, and people groups.

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Revelation 7:9-10
