When Obedience Brings Trouble ~ Acts 16:16-34

I.  Your Obedience Will Be Tested (vs. 17-24)

a. Paul and Silas were in Philippi and were sharing the Gospel of Christ.  Lydia had already come to Christ things were going well…what was annoying Paul?

b. What did Paul do for the girl?

c. What was the slave girl owner’s response?

d. For their obedience to the Lord what did Paul and Silas experience?

II. Trouble Does Not Always Mean You Are out of God’s Will (vs. 20-24)
 

a. What does Paul write about persecution (1 Timothy 3:12, Philippians 1:29)?

b. When trouble comes because of obedience what are we instructed to do by James (James 1:12, 5:10-11)?

c.  How are believers to respond to others in their troubles (2 Corinthians 1:3-7)?        

III. Trouble Can Lead to Greater Blessings (vs. 25-34)

a. In the Philippian jail how do Paul and Silas pass their time?

b. Who is listening?

c. How do we know that the example / actions of Paul and Silas were effectively communicating God’s words?

d. In the end what resulted from Paul and Silas faith, obedience, and endurance, and witness?

IV. Application:  When we suffer as a result of sin…repent.  When we suffer because we are followers of Christ endure.  Does it matter how we endure?
