How to Get Along: God's Way: Colossians 3:18-25



I.   SUBMIT: hupotasso (Gr) = A Greek military term meaning "to arrange [troop divisions] in a military fashion under the command of a leader". In non-military use, it was "a voluntary attitude of giving in, cooperating, assuming responsibility, and carrying a burden".

a.  To whom is the wife to submit?

b.  Does the scripture give a reason to submit?

c.  Who is responsible for implementing the submission?


II.  LOVE: agape (Gr) = to welcome, to entertain, to be fond of, to love dearly

a.  Who is the husband to love?

b.  Is there any other exhortation to husbands about their wif

         c.   What relationship can you see in the exhortation to husbands and the exhortation to wives? _

III.  OBEY: hupakouo (Gr) = to listen, to harken to a command, to obey, be obedient to, submit to

a.  Who is a child to obey?


b.  It what are they to obey parents?


c.  What reason does the scripture give for children to obey their parents?



d.  What protection for children is directed at the father in an exhortation?


e.  The role of the bondservants (doulos) correlates well to a modern day employee.  What does the Lord require of bondservants?


f.  Who does the scripture state our work is really for? ___________ And who will reward?


IV.  Application:   Roles and responsibilities may vary but having a Christ-like regard for others and a willing, submissive spirit that esteems others is vital to getting along well.  When we behave according to scripture what benefits are immediately realized in each of the above roles?
