Be Doers ~ James 1:19-27

 

I.   BE SWIFT TO HEAR (vs. 19-20)

a. James continues his thought from verse 18 …that if we are the “firstfruits of His creatures” it will show in how one conducts himself.  How does this show that we are different?

b. What is James telling us in his exhortation to be slow to speak?

c. Is it easy to be slow to wrath?

d. Whose will is accomplished by the wrath of man?

II. BE DOERS OF THE WORD (VS. 21-24)

a. What takes place before we can receive the “implanted” word?

b. What is the significance of the “implanted” word?

c. How does James describe someone who hears but does not do the word?    

           d. What makes the difference in whether the word has a lasting effect in  someone’s life?

III. BE DOERS OF THE WORK (VS. 25-28)

a. What is the “perfect law of liberty?”

b. What identifies the person who is not a forgetful hearer?

            c. What benefit is there to hearing and doing the work?

            d. How does James point out if someone’s religion is useless?

            e. What does God see as “pure and undefiled” religion?

IV. Application:  Why is it necessary to be a doer of the word before a doer of the work?
