Promises of Provision

March 2019

Red noses and warm coats on a walk around Reflections Lake.

2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

I had a crisis moment this month. Not a major one, but one where I thought, "We are never going to get past our current level of support. We will be stuck at 55% forever. We will never get to Togo. Ugh. Woe is me."

And then that afternoon, a friend told us they were increasing their monthly support. And within a week, we had four or five people say they want to partner with us. And I was humbled by how the Lord heard that anxious cry of my heart and calmed it, providing new and updated partnerships.

Then we started receiving our medical bills from the last two months. And as the stack of invoices and statements grew taller and taller, I had another crisis moment. I thought, "There's no way we can pay these bills. There's too many and not enough money in our bank account. Ugh. Woe is me."

And the next day, a friend said she felt led by God to give us a gift and handed me a generous check. The day after that, another friend handed us a significant amount of cash. And the day after that, another sweet friend said they want to give to us from their tax refund to help with recent bills. Then when I started calling physicians and hospitals to pay the bills, two of them reduced what we owed for a total of $130. And I was humbled by how, once again, the Lord heard the anxious cry of my heart and calmed it, providing financially in unexpected ways.

So when I asked Allen what we should share on our newsletter this month, he said, "Though [doctor visits and bills and partnership development] can be overwhelming and stressful, God has been faithful all the way. Even when we don't know how He will, He has always followed through and provided."

Allen's comment reminded me that God is the provider of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). He is unchanging (Malachi 3:6), the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He will not reject us (1 Samuel 12:22).

What an honor to serve Him, knowing He is right with us. What an honor to give all for Him, knowing that He gave it all for us. And how humbling that He continues to provide all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

Answered Prayers

This month, we praise God for:

  • New prayer and financial partners who have joined our team - thank you!
  • Warmer weather (as in 45*) and melting snow, signaling that spring is on the way.
  • A smooth transition for Melissa back to work... and for Allen being at home with the kiddos all day. And for grace on the days when the "smooth transition" wasn't really all that smooth (we're looking at you, piles of laundry and dirty dishes).

In March, we...

  • ... went on a family adventure to Reflections Lake where Ruth and Allen built a snowman.
  • ... were wooed by Hudson's sweet smiles.
  • ... celebrated Clara's transition to a big girl bed.
  • ... and reflected on the one year anniversary of our appointment to Togo by ABWE!

Coming Up

Our site visit to Togo is scheduled for May 1-12. Then, upon our return, we will finish planning for an O&P yard sale fundraiser over Memorial Day weekend at Fairview Loop Baptist in Wasilla. We are taking donations now, if you have any treasures from your spring cleaning that you'd like to get rid of!

Pre-Field Update

Currently, we are at 59% of our monthly need and nearly a third of our Outfit & Passage (O&P) need! Our goal is to be at 75% of our monthly need by early May, prior to our site visit. We'd love for YOU to help make that goal come to fruition! Pray about how the Lord would have you partner with us.

Team Update

Our teammates in Togo are going to South Africa in April for a conference/retreat. Pray for safety as they go and for a refreshing time while there. And again, our family is gearing up for our site visit to Togo May 1-12. Allen, Melissa, and Hudson will be traveling while the girls stay in Alaska.

Miss a previous month's newsletter? The video versions are posted on YouTube! These quick clips are ideal for showing to a congregation on Sunday, in a small group setting, or just if you want a kick out of how awkward we are on film. Enjoy!
