COLOSSIANS 3:1-11

I.   THE GOAL

a.  Verse 1 is specifically written to people who were _____________.  What does this mean? 

b.  What does it mean to “set your mind?” _______________________

c.  Why is it important that Christ is seated at the right hand of God?  (Hebrews 7:25)
 

II.  THE FUNERAL

Note: put to death / mortify (Greek) nekroo = to deaden, to subdue, be dead, mortify

a.  Do we take seriously enough the statement, “for you died?”

b.  If in fact we are dead, what is the significance of Christ to each of us?

c.   What characteristics are we to kill in our lives?
 

III.  THE PUT OFF

Note: put off (Greek) apekduomai = to divest wholly oneself, despoil, put off, spoil

a.  What things are to be “put off” in the life of believers?

 

b.  Who does the scripture state is to do the “putting off?”

 

c.  Verses 9 and 10 make two assumptions about believers: 1) we have put off the old man and his deeds.  2)  We have put on

IV.  Application:   The call to Christ is the call to come and die.  It is also the call to come and live.  Paul states that he was crucified with Christ…and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Gal 2:20)  How important is it that I die to pride and selfish ambitions and live to Christ?  Is there life any other way?
