Abraham  a Man of Faith

(Genesis 12:1-25:11, *Hebrews 11:1-2, 6, 8-12)

I.   Abraham’s Acts of Faith

a.   Gen 12:4   Abram departed as the LORD had spoken

  1. Gen 12:7  Abram built an alter to the LORD
  2. Gen 13:4  Abram called on the name of the LORD
  3. Gen 13:6-12  Abram gave Lot first choice of the land believing God would bless him anyway
  4. Gen 13:18  Abram built another alter to the LORD
  5. Gen 14:14  Abram went out to rescue Lot
  6. Gen 14:20  Abram gave a tithe to the Melchizedek, king of Salem, Priest of God Most High
  7. Gen 15:6  Abram believed God’s promise for descendants
  8. Gen 17:23-24  Instituted circumcision as mark of God’s covenant
  9. Gen 22:1-19 Offered up Isaac
  10. Gen 24:3-4  Made provision for a godly wife for Isaac
  11. Gen 25:7-8  Abraham Died in Faith and was gathered to his people (Luke 16:19-31, Luke 23:43)

II.   Abraham’s Weaknesses

  1. Gen 12:10-11  Abram went down to Egypt to escape the famine
  2. Gen 12:10-13  Abram told Sarai to say she was his sister
  3. Gen 16:2  Abram heeded the voice of Sarai and went in unto Hagar
  4. Gen 17:17  Abram laughed at the idea a 100 year old man could father a child
  5. Gen 17:18  Abram thought to substitute Ishmael for God’s plan
  6. Gen 20:1-2  Abraham tries to pass Sarah off as his sister… again
  7. Gen 20:11  Abraham feared that God could not / would not protect him
