Lord, Be My Helper ~ Psalm 30:1-12

 

I.  I WILL EXTOL THE LORD (vs. 1-3) extol = to lavish praise

a. Why does David say he will extol the Lord?

b. What was the need that David cried out to the Lord?

c. How severe was David’s ailment and what did the Lord do for him?       

II. THE LORD’S DISCIPLINE (vs. 4-10)

a. David appeals to all of God’s people to praise and give thanks to the Lord…why?

b. What would David have us know about God’s anger and favor? c. What shakes David’s confidence in verses 6-7?

d. On what basis does David appeal to God for help in verses 8-9?     

e. Contrast what David says in verse 6 and what he says in verse 10…   What is the difference?

III. I WILL GIVE THANKS FOREVER (vs. 11-12)

a. David immediately transitions into rejoicing in verse 11, why?

b. What happens when we do not give voice to our praise when we are blessed?

c. How long does David state he will give thanks to the Lord?

IV. Application:   What would happen if we were more honest with God about our needs and more vocal to God with our praise?
