God Begins to Move in Joseph
Genesis 37:1-22
I. Joseph’s Dreams (vs. 1-11)
a. Where was Joseph living and why do you think verse 2 states “this is the history of Jacob?
b. How old is Joseph at this time?
c. How is Joseph’s relationship with his brothers, particularly the sons of Zilpah, and what drove that sentiment?
d. How was Joseph shown to be loved more by Jacob than his brothers?
e. What were the two dreams Joseph has that he shares with his brothers?
f. Do the brothers immediately understand the gist of the dreams?
g. Do the dreams do anything to improve Joseph’s standing with his brothers?
How about Jacob?
II. An Evil Plot (vs. 12-22)
a. Where does Jacob send Joseph in verse 13?
b. When they are not where he thought they would be how does he find them?
c. What do the brothers do when they see Joseph afar off?
d. Who among the brothers seems weak but the most rational?
e. How long does it take for the brothers to execute their plan?
III. Joseph in the Pit (vs. 23-)
a. Upon stripping Joseph and casting him into the pit what do the brothers do next?
b. Which brother suggests they sell Joseph?
Who do they sell Joseph to and where do they say they are going?
c. Which brother was not in on the plan and does it seem he was kept in the dark about Joseph’s true whereabouts?
d. How do the brothers lead Jacob to believe Joseph was killed by beasts?
e. Is the family able to console Jacob?
APPLICATION: When God is moving in person’s life is the path always clear, easy, and joyful?
Even though it may not be clear, easy, or joyful, will God work His perfect will for good? Rom 8:28
