Esau's Descendants
Genesis 36:1-43
I. Esau’s Family (vs. 1-8)
a. Verse one clearly states the nation that Esau’s descendants become. What is that nation?
b. Who were Esau’s wives?
c. Who were the children born to Esau?
d. Verse 6 states Esau moved his family. Where does he go and what reason is cited in Scripture for his move?
II. At Home in Seir (vs. 8-19)
a. What is notable about the region of Seir?
b. Verses 10-14 repeats the listing of Esau’s sons.
c. Verses 15-19 identifies those counted as chiefs (dukes) of their clans or tribes. Who were they?
d. In verse 16 chief Korah is listed as a son of Eliphaz (son of Adah) but in verse 18 we see Korah listed as a son of Oholibama (Esau’s second wife) What are the possibilities?
II. Sons of Seir the Horite (vs. 20-30)
a. These verses chronicle the other occupants of Seir. These also recognized chiefs of their clans.
b. In a passage given to sons why would there be a daughter listed in verses 22 and 25? (see verses 2, and 12)
c. What does this reveal about Esau’s total integration with the Canaanite society?
III. Kings Over the Land of Seir (vs. 31-39)
a. Seir had kings ruling much before Israel recognized a king. A noteworthy king of Seir is found in verse 33. Why is he noteworthy? (see verse 17)
b. A reference to the Temanites in verse 34 has a connection to verse 15. What is the connection?
